- Dove carving in old crusty,
alligatored paint. This is a rare old survivor and may have been
a field decoy. Note the small indentations in the left side of
the head could be from birdshot, which might not have penetrated
further given that it is hardwood. It has a flat body with
wire legs and may never have been on a stand until we put it
on one to better display it. 7" L x 5 1/2" H (including
stand) and approximately 3/4" thick. In very good original
condition save for wear from use. One side is slightly more faded
than the other, but the difference is not as great as appears
in the photos. Circa late 19th very early 20th century.
