Early Songbird Carving

Very early carving of a songbird perched on a branch above a tree fungus mount. We haven't been able to identify the bird, but the fungus mount is typical of many similar ones we've seen in the Adirondacks and we understand this piece was found there by the late former owner. The bird is very well carved and painted. We added a hanger to replace an old staple type device that didn't allow the bird to hang properly and touched up a tiny loss of paint on the very tip of the bird's beak. Otherwise, the piece is as found (there appears to be another small area of paint loss above the eyes that matches the adjoining paint and we left as is). 10" high, including base. Circa late 19th - early 20th century. (CN-22)
