Early Turned Bowl

Crusty old lidded turned bowl found in Maine, probably dating to the mid - 19th century
or earlier. Slightly out of round and lid doesn't fit securely. The paint is red and black,
although it appears that it may originally have been painted blue from a spot we
scraped off. The white specks on it appear to be fragments of a later coat of thick white
paint or some other crusty substance. There is an old crack barely visible on the left
side in the first photo, which was securely repaired during continued use. It measures
approximately 7 1/2" wide and 5 1/2" high to top of finial. We suspect the bowl may have
been used as a serving dish for porridge or some other liquid foodstuff, although it is
the right size for a large sugar bowl. (CL-28)
