- Very fine miniature paddle
hand painted by Alpheus Keech (1864-1926) of Fisher's Landing,
N.Y. in the Thousand Islands. Features a lighthouse, 2 people
in a canoe and a full moon, with a tent, campfire and island
in the background. Labeled "Moonlight and 1000 Islands".
Very delicate and only 21" long. Keech was employed
as a woodworker and began making these paddles in his spare time
in the late 19th Century as gifts for friends. They became
so popular that it eventually became a main part of his business.
There were a variety of scenes. This one is uncommon.
