- Tiny spruce gum box in the
form of a lady's shoe found in an estate in South Freeport, Maine.
This item is very finely made and adequate for holding a small
supply of spruce gum. The sliding lid works very well
and remains on the box when opened. There are some designs
on the lid made with small dots and very intricate design work
made with small pins on the sole simulating shoe tacks. The
piece is only 3 1/2" long x 1 1/2" high. There
is a tiny, old chip off the forward end of the slide on the right
side of the shoe that has worn with use and doesn't affect operation.
Circa 18th or early 19th century. One of the best
spruce gum boxes we have ever owned. Probably made as a
gift for a special lady. (CS-27)
