- Carving of a Green Jay by
Harry Ross (1933- 2014), signed by him and dated 1977. Ross was
a highly regarded decoy and songbird carver from Norway Maine.
He became very widely known and his carvings were collected by
Roy Rogers, Ernest Hemmingway and Clark Gable among other celebrities.
When we first saw this carving, with its unusual gaudy colors,
we thought it was an imaginary bird, but learned that it is a
semi-tropical jay indigenous to northern South America and Central
America with its range extending into southern Texas. 9"
L and 7 ½" H (including base). Excellent original
condition. (CK -39).
