- Early wooden weathervane
in the style of Black Hawk, a famous Morgan race horse in the
1830's and 40's that was memorialized in high end metal vanes
later in that century. This vane was probably copied from such
a vane by a man of lesser means, painted as a pinto and used
for many years on his barn or house. He was a talented woodworker
and employed interesting joinery and finely carved and gilded
horseshoes. There is some expected paint loss and shrinkage of
some joints from the weather. The tail was somewhat loose and
has been re-secured. 26" L x 17" H (to top of head)
x 1" thick. We made a simple stand for display, although
it also looks very good hanging on the wall. Excellent American
folk art. (CB-28)
