- Very unusual and rare little
burl canoe cup from a Quebec collection. Only 2" in diameter
and 1 3/8" high, with a well carved open handle and rawhide
strap for attachment to the owner's belt. There may or may not
have been a toggle at one time. The cup also has a carved foot
with a flat bottom, which is most unusual in a canoe cup. One
old rim chip or a flaw in the wood that has worn smooth from
use. Carved from a burl. The wood looks like walnut although
the prior owner believed it is ash. Possibly a child's canoe
cup, although we believe it more likely was used for alcoholic
libations by an adult owner between sips of water- hence the
flat base. (CL-4)
